From the very beginning of developing LoneTree Live, we have been in ongoing conversation about one core value: compensating our actors. In the community theater model, actors are given an opportunity to create art with like-minded people and often that is where the gift ends. This is a generous endeavor in which actor-artists can participate, with no cost to them other than countless hours in preparation. It’s not like many other hobbies or group-based activities that may incur fees or dues. Oftentimes, designers, stage managers and directors are paid while actors are offered only grateful applause from the audience.
We are working to offer a stipend to all artists, including actors, who help create our productions because we prioritize all artists we work with. And we are committed to raising those stipends over time. We especially recognize the immense time, craft, and emotional labor actors bring to every production, and in this moment in particular, we believe it is essential to center their well-being and ensure their contributions are honored in tangible ways.
We are creating an Actor Fund to offer the performers of our mainstage production a stipend. LoneTree Live is approaching this from many directions. We are writing grants, soliciting sponsors and introducing a new ticket tier in which YOU, the audience, can contribute. When you purchase your tickets to mainstage shows, you will have an opportunity to contribute to the Actor Fund. We hope our community will rally around this initiative and help support arguably THE MOST important piece of any production … the actors!
