Memphis Seed to Script Playwright Development Program - Spring 2026

LoneTree Live is proud to produce the Memphis Seed to Script Playwright Development Program, a 10-week play development initiative designed to nurture emerging voices from the Mid-South. We’re working with passionate, imaginative playwrights who are ready to grow their work in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Emerging Memphis-area writers were selected to participate in this professional writing intensive with the goal of completing a first draft of an original, full-length play. There is no cost associated with this opportunity, thanks to the Tennessee Arts Commission, ARTSmemphis Arts Build Communities grant and LoneTree Live.

Participants have developed a full-length script with mentorship from nationally recognized playwright Evan Linder. They engaged in workshops, peer feedback, and one-on-one guidance, helping them strengthen both craft and voice and collaborate with a cohort of fellow writers, sharing insights, encouragement, and creative energy.

The Facilitator: Evan Linder is a nationally recognized playwright and co-founder of Chicago’s The New Colony. His work, including 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche and Byhalia, Mississippi, has been produced across the U.S. and internationally. Evan brings a wealth of experience in developing fresh voices and guiding writers through the full process of play creation.

One participant’s play was selected for a free staged reading with LoneTree Live April 8 at 7:30pm at TheatreWorks at The Square, giving their work a chance to be performed for an audience.

The Veil, by Savannah S. Miller
Don’t tell your dreams before breakfast. Don’t stare at the trees. And absolutely, never ever, whistle at night. Mia, Shayne, Paloma, and Caitlin are four private school friends who decide to spend New Year’s Eve 2017 in a cabin in Jefferson, North Carolina, a mountain town with a history of the supernatural and an ominous “Devil’s Staircase." Five years later, three of them are dealing from the fallout of that night and the different decisions they made that have shaped their early twenties. The Veil uses the mysteriousness of Appalachian folklore to explore female friendship under pressure. It is cabin horror meets class divides, betrayal, and living with the repercussions of your actions when you cannot take them back.
